Welcome to the website of Weeton Parish Council. The Parish has a population of approximately 1000 people and is located in North Yorkshire between Otley and Harrogate, close to the River Wharfe. Its name is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Widetun(e)/Wideton(e) and seems to derive from Old English wiðig ‘willow’ and tūn ‘settlement, estate, farm’, thus meaning ‘willow farm’.
The Parish consists of two villages, Weeton to the South and Huby to the North. It is served by Weeton railway station (Leeds – Harrogate line) and is within easy access of the A61 (Leeds-Harrogate road) and the A658 (Harrogate-Bradford road). A number of events and activities are hosted at the Almscliffe Village Hall in Huby which is also home to the Huby and Weeton pre-school. The bar in the village hall is open on a periodic basis. Also located in Huby is the Almscliffe Tennis and Bowling club and the Parish is home to the Weeton Show which takes place in July of each year. There was previously a cricket club based in the Parish and efforts are underway to re-establish the club and rejuvenate the ground. Located in Weeton is St Barnabas church.
