The Parish Council has received the following update on the potential introduction of average speed cameras in North Yorkshire. It is disappointing that the various agencies involved appear to be starting from scratch despite the use of average speed cameras being across other parts of the UK. Since our NYC Division Councillor has decided to cease communicating with Parish Councils in the area, opportunities to press NYC on the need for urgent action is limited for the time being. Other avenues are being investigated.
‘There are no fixed or average speed safety cameras on the local road network within North Yorkshire. Whilst the enforcement of speed limits is primarily a matter for North Yorkshire Police (NYP), North Yorkshire Council are currently working closely with NYP and the Mayoral Combined Authority on a project investigating the feasibility of the introduction of average speed safety cameras across the York and North Yorkshire area. This includes establishing the site selection criteria for where they may be installed. It is not currently possible to offer a timeframe for when this project will be concluded, but it is live and all partners are committed to a timely resolution.’
